Go is a strategy board game originating from ancient China some three thousand years ago. The game is adversarial by nature, where two players battle to cover a larger total area of the board with their own colored stones. Each turn, players alternate placing stones to map out their potential territories. When one player has surrounded the stones of another, they “capture” those pieces and gain more territory. There is a rich, complicated strategy involved in the game of Go, more than one may realize at first. The number of possible moves is vast and exponentially larger than possible moves in the game of Chess, despite the relatively simple rules.
